About the role
As Security and Emergency Response Infrastructure Coordinator, you will act as the third in charge of the Museum’s Security and Emergency Response Department, as a 24/7 emergency and incident response contact, the Deputy Chief Warden and receive on-call allowance. Ensure international museum security standards are maintained through risk mitigation.
Core Responsibilities
Your core responsibilities in this role are as follows;
- The Security and Emergency Response Infrastructure Coordinator will operate as a security officer and hold responsibility for the maintenance, improvement, training, and optimisation of security infrastructure and associated systems. This role will report to the Coordinator of Operations, and the Manager of Security and Emergency Response. As a security officer, this role will contribute to the operation of the physical security, monitoring systems and taskings across numerous sites.
- Provide fill-in cover for the security operations coordinator when they are unavailable. This includes the requirement to undertake administrative tasks such as invoicing, on-the-job training, leave management, reimbursement of expenses and rostering for Security Department. Liaise with external law enforcement and emergency services. Act as Deputy Chief Warden in emergency situations including liaison with police, emergency and service personnel to deal with incidents quickly and effectively.
- Provide coordination, guidance, coaching and advice to security staff in infrastructure and software, security and access issues, evacuation and disaster response procedures to ensure staff have the knowledge and skills they require to undertake their duties to the required standards.
- Receive notice of security-related incidents and manage the response to these issues by deploying resources to provide effective and responsive services and/or by escalating the matter to the appropriate senior officer. Investigate and report on security incidents, including theft, first aid, building defects, complaints by staff, tradespeople and clients to rectify problems and improve procedures.
- Participate in and coordinate the monitoring and checking of all areas of the Museum Sites to protect assets and the public and to ensure that security procedures are followed in accordance with legislative and Museum requirements.
- Oversee and monitor system administration, access control security systems, CCTV systems, Fire Alarm System, radio network, alarm systems and key registers to ensure they are functioning and providing the required levels of protection.
- Undertake projects such as managing, maintaining and updating the technology and systems for the department and/or developing and implementing a suite of training and induction programs for staff and visitors, including building contractors.
- Take responsibility for the planning, management, delivery, maintenance and repairs of security infrastructure, including access control, CCTV, software, and physical assets.
Key challenges
- Ensure the security system is fully operational at all times and that faults are detected and rectified in a timely manner. Being on call 24 hour, 7 days a week to respond to system failures.
- Maintain contact with and supervise staff who work various shifts.
- Maintain security controls for staff, contractors, volunteers and visitors who enter the building throughout the day and night.
- Maintain a 24-hour roster for the Control Rooms at the Domain and external Storage Facility sites with a finite number of staff.
- Effectively monitoring activities across different buildings and sites with a variety of functions to deliver effective monitoring and quick response to security-related situations at all times.
- Ensuring the balance between security and customer service objectives are met so as to provide appropriate security in an unobtrusive and hospitable manner. This includes undertaking appropriate staff coaching and implementing strategies to ensure that security services are effective.
Essential Requirements

- A valid NSW Drivers Licence – minimum C class
- A valid NSW Working with Children clearance.

- Availability work a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends, public holidays, and after-hours callouts.
Knowledge & Experience
To be successful in this role you must
- Have adequate knowledge and experience in order to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in this Role Description
- Have experience working in a similar role within industry of at least 5 years. You are self-motivated, detail focussed and can work in a high-pressure environment with competing priorities.
- Be a strong communicator, both oral and written, and have the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Be able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and experience in the installation and management of electronic access control and CCTV systems.
- Have a good knowledge of industry-specific and general IT software and systems (Microsoft Office, SQL, Access Control, CCTV systems, and incident management systems).
- Have a minimum of 3 years experience in undertaking security risk assessments and audits using a number of industry-recognised methodologies.
- Have a minimum of 3 years experience supervising security personnel and operating a 24 hour/7 days per week control room in a large organisation with complex cultural expectations.
- Have a demonstrated knowledge of physical security infrastructure and system components to facilitate your role in managing their performance and maintenance.
