The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a professional to join the agency as the Security and Emergency Management Officer.

This position is responsible for ensuring high priority is given to the delivery of a safe, secure and enjoyable environment for visitors, and that the safety of staff and contractors is at the forefront of planning and delivery.

As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide assistance, guidance and advice to management, staff and external service providers on the range of functions associated with the Property Operations business unit, as well as specific advice regarding security and fire safety systems and associated componentry within the Museum’s owned and leased buildings. Under broad direction, the incumbent will take an active role in the management of daily operational issues within the security and fire safety environment, including oversight of the Museum’s contracted staff.

The successful applicant will play an active role in the operation and maintenance of security and fire safety equipment including the development and implementation of associated procedures and training. They will also provide advice and guidance on security and fire safety issues to exhibitions and events consultative meetings and forums.

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Managing the daily operations of the security & emergency management contracts.
  2. Facilitating daily personnel security operations.
  3. Facilitating daily physical security operations.
  4. Participating in implementing the Business Continuity Plan including alternating contact.
  5. Undertaking Chief Warden Duties including facilitating the Emergency Control Organisation, training, awareness and evacuations.
  6. Undertaking security risk assessments relating to the Museum’s activities.
  7. Undertaking policy and procedures updates and advice collaboratively with the Agency Security & fire Safety Advisor.
  8. Being available to undertake after-hours work, including providing direction to the guarding service providers after-hours.
  9. Participating in report preparation for a range of purposes and meetings and taking minutes as required.
  10. Other duties as directed and consistent with an APS 5 position.
