The key duties of the position include:

Reporting to the Security Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day security operations and emergency response aspects of the Museum, ensuring a safe and secure site for all stakeholders in attendance. You will also be the Museum’s representative and contact in the absence of the Security Operations Manager particularly over weekends and during public holidays.

Your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Oversee the operational security officers at the Museum and control room, ensuring day-to-day delivery of security services are in line with museum policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure the security team is prepared for emergency response and proactively monitors all stakeholder safety and security at the Museum at all times. This includes working with the Security team to deliver training, as required.
  • Proactively identify security risks at the Museum and provide strategic and operational advice to the Security Operations Manager regarding appropriate corrective and preventive action.
  • Support the Security Operations Manager with the end-to-end management of major security incidents and/or serious security breaches at the Museum.
  • Continuously review and collaborate with the Security Operations Manager to improve physical security measures, policy and procedures across the Museum.
  • Provide routine supervision, team leadership and general direction to security and cleaning personnel.
  • Assist the Security Operations Manager with the management of the Museum’s security and cleaning contracts.
  • Act as the Museum emergency contact point for police, fire service and other agencies.
  • Work with the Security Operations Manager to develop security, cleaning and emergency management procedures as required, involving appropriate internal and/or external stakeholders.
  • Ensure CCTV and access control systems are maintained and working effectively in line with contractual agreements.
  • Collaborate with relevant internal and/or external stakeholders as required to ensure appropriate resourcing of security and cleaning personnel for all events held at the Museum.
  • Any other lawful and reasonable request made within this position.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management.
  • Extensive operational security experience including operational security planning, supervision of control room operations (or equivalent), use of access control, key management and CCTV systems and experience in emergency management procedures.
  • Comprehensive experience in contributing to the planning and delivery of high profile security and safety services for dignitaries and in liaising with outside agencies and emergency services.
  • Previous experience in managing the security and cleaning needs of a commercial operation, including the ability to manage competing staffing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in incident reporting, statistics, records management and investigation.
  • Effective management and problem solving skills.
  • Highly effective communication skills with the ability to deal with a diverse range of customers, suppliers and staff.
  • Knowledge of Security Industry Act 1997 and Regulations 2016.
  • Ability to accommodate flexible work roster based on the operational requirements of the Museum that involves evening, weekend and public holiday work.

Notes

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria. Applications that do not address the selection criteria will not be considered for short listing by the Selection Committee. As part of the selection process the selection committee may invite candidates to undertake psychometric test, you should advise the selection committee if you have any special needs. Psychometric tests may be used as the initial short-listing test or later in the selection process. Some tests are very short while others may take one or more hours.
