The Australian War Memorial combines a shrine, a world-class museum, and an extensive archive. The Memorial’s purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war. Under general direction, the Security Shift Team Leader is responsible for the delivery of the day-to-day security operation. The work involves: supervision and training of staff; monitoring of complex security systems, development and implementation of security and emergency procedures, liaison with internal and external clients/stakeholders; assisting with special security arrangements; coordination of the staff roster including complex coverage requirements, and Deputy Chief Warden duties.
Core Responsibilities
Under general direction provide day-to-day supervision of security operations including:
- Monitor and operate all security systems including complex programming.
- Provide ongoing security system and operations training to all security staff.
- Liaise with internal and external clients including providing operational security advice to staff and visitors.
- Supervision and development of staff skills and task deliverables
- Coordination of the staff roster including for additional and complex coverage as requested.
- Perform an administrative function including research and procurement of security related materials.
- Exercise limited independent judgement and initiative in the day to day operations.
- Coordination of incident response and investigation
- Assist the Security Manager with the detailed development of operational procedures for implementation by the security team.
- Supervise security staff in the implementation of security and emergency procedures and provide relief for security staff in the Security Control Room as required.
- Assist the Security Manager with the research, planning, implementation and review of security for Memorial operations, VIP visits, ceremonies and functions.
- Assist the Security Manager with the coordination of security requirements for Memorial buildings, staff and contractors and associated assessments and reviews.
- Undertake the duties of Deputy Chief Warden as required including ongoing training provision to the Emergency Control Organisation.
- Manual handling and movement of security related objects, including but not limited to bollards and barricades.
- Abide by and further the principles and practices of Work Health and Safety as outlined in the WHS Act, taking reasonable care for their own health and safety and ensuring that their acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons.
