Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Senior Collection Manager for Natural Science collections to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal.  The role is as varied as the working environment and will require enthusiasm, warmth and flexibility.

You will lead the Natural Science Collection Management team to provide expert support on a range of collection related activities relating to acquisitions, loans, deaccessions, programmes and public access through physical management of the collection, and robust documentation and database management.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge and experience of managing museum registration procedures including acquisition and accessioning processes, deaccessions, inventory, and loans
  • Proven ability to lead, train and supervise staff and to engender enthusiasm and commitment
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of requirements for the safe handling, packing, conservation, display and storage of museum objects to current museum standards
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the use of computerised systems for accurately managing museum collections
  • Considerable experience in database management and development, preferable in Vernon CMS
  • Understand the principles of equal opportunities, diversity management and the Treaty of Waitangi as they relate to the Museum environment
