Purpose of this Position
The primary focus of this position is to engage in concept development and design development for permanent exhibition projects funded until mid 2019. The designer will provide high levels of creative input, team leadership and be a key point of contact for technical advice relating to design documentation and construction issues.
Primary Accountability
The position is accountable for development, presentation and delivery of exhibition designs for redevelopment projects, observing guidelines to ensure design projects occur on schedule, on budget and efficiently, to the highest standards of innovative creativity and design excellence.
Duties
- Conceptualise, develop and document innovative, content rich, multi-sensory exhibition experiences delivered across multiple media.
- Interpret and resolve complex project and interpretive briefs and deliver visitor experiences that appropriately engage the targeted audiences.
- Convey design concepts and original ideas to museum colleagues, suppliers and external stakeholders by applying expertise in the field of Exhibition Design.
- Supervise the design of exhibition projects, contributing to scoping documents, interpreting briefs, preparing concepts, schedules, cost plans and documentation. Supervise multi-disciplinary exhibition or display project teams as required.
- Develop and support design management systems in consultation with Design Manager.
- Identify, negotiate with, recommend, commission and manage external contractors.
- Ensure that business plan priorities are applied in the Design Department and advise the Design Manager of resource requirements and appropriate allocation to meet objectives.
- Develop guidelines for excellence in Exhibition Design and contribute to strategic policy development as it applies to design and exhibitions.
