Senior Exhibition Designer – Te Pasifika Redevelopment

Museums Victoria seeks an experienced and talented Senior Exhibition Designer to engage in concept and design development for the Te Pasifika Redevelopment permanent exhibition and related visitor experiences.

The designer will provide high levels of creative input and be a key point of contact for technical advice relating to design documentation and construction issues.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The purpose of this position is to engage in preparation of concepts, design development, specifications and documentation for the Te Pasifika Redevelopment permanent exhibition and any associated programs, events and commercial outputs. The designer will provide high levels of creative input and be a key point of contact for all stages of the design process, within a collaborative team environment.

Te Pasifika Redevelopment will celebrate the rich stories, histories, cultures, and living communities of the Moana/Solwara (the Pacific Ocean) with a focus on connections to Victoria and our First Peoples. Informed by a process of deep community engagement, Te Pasifika will bring an authentic, vital and contemporary Pacific to diverse audiences of all ages.

The position is accountable for development, presentation and delivery of exhibition designs, supporting project teams to deliver captivating visitor experiences on schedule, on budget and efficiently, to the highest standards of innovative creativity and design excellence.

Notable skills and experiences:

  1. Highly developed conceptual, spatial and creative skills and demonstrated ability to prototype, test and develop captivating exhibitions and visitor experiences.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of the role of design and interpretive programs in a museum or similar setting.
  3. Demonstrated experience and skill in communicating design ideas through the generation of hand sketches, computer renderings, physical models and similar.
  4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with people at all levels and providing design leadership within collaborative and multi-disciplinary teams.
  5. Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, with the ability and willingness to work within a collaborative and consultative team environment and community engagement framework.
  6. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in documentation for exhibition projects using CAD and related computer technologies. Experience with 3D modelling software Rhino or Sketchup is desirable.
  7. Considerable experience in identifying, commissioning and managing external suppliers and contractors.
  8. Demonstrated staff supervision, project management and organisational skills and the ability to develop, implement and review new systems and procedures.
