Duties

The Australian War Memorial combines a shrine, a world-class museum, and an extensive archive. The Memorial’s purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war or on operational service and those who have served our nation in times of conflict. Its mission is leading remembrance and understanding of Australia’s wartime experience.

The Senior Historian performs a range of high-level research and writing tasks under the limited direction of the Head of the Military History Section in support of Australian War Memorial military history publications, conferences, exhibitions, multimedia products and related projects, presenting the findings of research and the dissemination of military history information. The Senior Historian also undertakes a range of management and leadership tasks, represents the Memorial through media and conference presentations, and liaises with stakeholder groups and other agencies at the appropriate level.

Eligibility

A postgraduate qualification in military history or another relevant field is highly desirable. A substantial publication record in relevant fields, including significant research and publication in the military history of one or more major conflicts, would be advantageous.
