The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences sits at the intersection of art, design, science and technology and plays a critical role in engaging communities with contemporary ideas and issues. Established in 1881, the museum includes the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Observatory, the Museums Discovery Centre and will expand to include Powerhouse Parramatta – the largest cultural infrastructure project currently being undertaken in Australia. The Museum is custodian to over half a million objects of national and international significance and is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in Australia.
The Sydney Observatory Senior Host is the front of house shift supervisor at Sydney Observatory and is responsible for the highest standard of customers service across public programs and operations. The Sydney Observatory is a key scientific and education facility with this role being key to science communication across the program and largely during evening hours and on weekend and as a key delegate for the Sydney Observatory Experience Coordinator when required. Alongside programs, the role responds to visitor enquiries, communicates general site and program information (face-to-face and via phone and online) as well as delivering commercial events and retail sales in addition to assuming a key role in site safety and emergency management.
Tertiary qualifications in astronomy and astrophysics are essential. Postgraduate candidates (Masters or PhD) are desirable.
The Powerhouse welcomes applications from Indigenous Australians, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and people with a disability. If you have individual requirements that need to be accommodated in order to participate in the selection process and join the Museum, please indicate this in your application.
