SHMA Winter Wonderlights success

Sovereign Hill celebrates another successful Winter Wonderlights, 3BA FM, 23 July 2019

Winter Wonderlights has been hailed as a roaring success after its doors closed on Sunday for another year.

Overall, just under 100,000 people flooded Sovereign Hill to experience the Christmas in July event for themselves and was one of the largest ever events staged in Sovereign Hill’s 49-year history.

Visitors were treated to 144 theatre performances over the three weeks and listened to 46 hours of Christmas Carols performed by a brass band as Sovereign Hill was transformed into a winter paradise for its busiest time of year.

Chief Executive Officer of Sovereign Hill, Sara Quon, says the event has established itself as one of the key winter events in regional Victoria, and continues to have an enormous economic impact to the City of Ballarat.

All up, over 18 kilometres of fairy lights were installed, more than 17,500 lollipops were eaten, and snow fell 96 times over the three weeks during the Ballarat Winter Festival.
