It’s hoped more than 100,000 people will visit a winter-themed event at Sovereign Hill where fake snowfalls and buildings are transformed into canvasses for kaleidoscopic projections.

Kaleidoscopic colour, fairy floss, faux snow, and live music lit up the smiles of many visitors to Sovereign Hill’s Winter Wonderlights event on Monday night.

It is hoped more than 100,000 people will attend the winter-themed light show, where animated displays and saturated hues are projected onto buildings, and 20km of fairy lights line the streets.

Sovereign Hill Museums Association deputy CEO Katrina Nitschke said the annual festival created a “a special type of awe and joy on the faces of our visitors.”

“The brilliant transformation of our site with lights has become a tradition, bringing a completely new way to experience our wonderful museum.” she said.

Winter Wonderlights began on June 24 and will run until July 16.

The event’s final Friday will include an over 18s period with DJs and drinks.
