Public Announcement: Leadership Update, Sovereign Hill, December 2025

Sovereign Hill Chief Executive Officer Sara Quon.

Sovereign Hill Museums Association today announces that Chief Executive Officer Sara Quon will step down from her role after seven years of dedicated service. Sara will conclude her tenure on 23 January and will work closely with the Board in the coming weeks to support a smooth transition.

Sara has played a central role in strengthening Sovereign Hill’s position as one of Australia’s leading museum experiences, through the development of our 20-year Master Plan, attracting strong government support for our work. Her leadership has guided significant refocus on our mission and purpose, with clarity that work with the community and our partners is central to this.  Our work with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners has evolved so positively through this time. culminating with the launch of the Wadawurrung Cultural Precinct.  Advancements in strategic direction, visitor experience, organisational culture and community engagement have built on the organisation’s strong legacy. She has also been a passionate advocate for accessibility, with Sovereign Hill recognised last night with the gold trophy in the Excellence in Accessible Tourism category at the Victorian Tourism Awards for the second year in a row.

Reflecting on her time at Sovereign Hill, Sara shared that the organisation’s people have been her greatest inspiration. “Our volunteers and employees bring both their heads and their hearts to this place. Their talent, ideas and commitment have shaped our progress and strengthened our sense of purpose. It has been a privilege to work alongside them.”

President of the Sovereign Hill Museums Association, Angela Carey, expressed the Board’s gratitude for Sara’s leadership and contribution. “Sara has brought strong strategic capability, clear direction and a collaborative approach to the organisation. She has championed our people and our mission through a period of renewal and change, and we are deeply appreciative of her service.”

The Board will shortly commence the recruitment process for a new Chief Executive Officer.
