Auckland Museum is a much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.
The Senior Collection Manager leads the team responsible for the management of the Museum’s Natural Sciences collections. The role provides oversight and leadership of collection maintenance and care, acquisitions and deaccessions, loans and access through physical management of the collection, and robust documentation and database management. This is a full-time and permanent position.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Have a degree relevant to the Museum’s Natural Sciences collections and activities
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Linnaean classification system
- Have proven knowledge and experience of museum registration and collection management procedures consistent with international standards
- Demonstrate considerable experience in database management and development, preferably in Vernon CMS
- Have proven ability to lead, train and supervise staff and to engender enthusiasm and commitment
- Demonstrate ability to manage financial and human resources in an environment of shifting priorities
- Must hold a current and full drivers licence
- Must have flexibility with working hours in order to be available to complete occasional evening, holiday or weekend shifts
