Senior Conservator, Collection Development & Access
Museums Victoria, Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a Senior Conservator, Collection Development & Access. We are looking for an individual who leads and develops the Museum’s conservation program related to exhibition, loan, access, and development of the Museum’s collections, to preserve the Museum’s collections and enable their use in Museum research and public programs, and by external stakeholders.
Working with Museums Conservation team, some core function of this position include:
- Manage and co-ordinate the work contribution and performance of Conservation staff, external service providers, students and volunteers including preparation of individual Performance Development and Progression plans.
- Advocate for the conservation needs of the collection and provide specialist conservation and risk management advice to colleagues and stakeholders concerning access, use, development and preservation of the Museum’s collections, including whole of collection and whole of organisation projects initiated by the Museum.
- Lead and participate in the review, development and implementation of conservation policy, strategies and procedures.
Relevant skills and attributes:
- Extensive experience of working in a conservation role with significant responsibility related to ongoing exhibition, loan and acquisition activities, as well as development of major exhibitions and whole of venue scale projects.
- Specialist knowledge, skills and extensive experience in the conservation of objects from multidisciplinary collections, including expertise in conducting complex and/or large scale conservation projects.
