The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) is an executive agency of the New South Wales State Government.  Embodying the best of design ingenuity and innovation, the Museum profiles one of the world’s great collections and is a highly successful interdisciplinary institution that sits at the intersection of the arts, design, science and technology and plays a critical role in supporting the brand and vision of the city.

This role sits within the Conservation unit which is responsible for the care and conservation management of the collection to standards appropriate for Australian conditions and in accordance with legislative obligations, strategies and actions and in line with accepted National Standards.

The unit has responsibility for the preservation, maintenance, conservation, storage and protection of the collection through – preventive conservation; remedial conservation, collection storage, collection display and use, movement of collections, research and outreach. The Conservation Unit develops policy and procedures to enable the Museum to achieve its aim of caring for and protecting its collections.

This is an interesting and unique role which contributes to the implementation of best practice and programs to conserve and develop the Museum’s multi-disciplinary heritage collections.

The successful applicant will be one of two people assisting in the management of operational steam engines, including condition assessment, preventive conservation activities and procedures for the operational engines. The role will also participate in exhibition presentation to the Museum audience in addition to planning, preparation, movement, transportation, installation and dismantling.
