TMAG comprises a museum, art gallery and herbarium with a mission to safeguard and exhibit the physical evidence of Tasmania’s natural and cultural heritage along with the cultural identity of Tasmanians.

Tasmania is looking for an inspirational and entrepreneurial leader as the Director for TMAG to provide leadership and executive management of its human, physical and financial resources to achieve the objectives set by the Board of Trustees and the Government.

The Director will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to TMAG as it consolidates and builds on the recent award-winning redevelopment and secures its position in a flourishing and competitive arts and cultural sector in Tasmania, and more broadly on the national and international stage.

The Director is responsible to the Board of Trustees for compliance with the Tasmanian Museum Act 1950.  In the role you will act as Executive Secretary to the Board of Trustees and, in accordance with their directions, manage TMAG and coordinate the overall development of its policies, collections and facilities.

The Director is a member of the Cultural and Creative Industry Development Division of State Growth and reports to the Deputy Secretary in regard to government policy, corporate and employee related matters.

As Director you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to Tasmania’s arts and cultural environment through the provision of executive management and inspiring strategic direction to the TMAG. The Director has an important role to lead and manage the diverse, skilled and highly experienced team at TMAG to effectively achieve the objectives set by the Government and the Board of Trustees.

The role provides the government and department with authoritative, high-level specialist advice on museum operations and cultural development in a context of sound financial management and entrepreneurial vision.
