About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Australian Museum and help make their collections accessible to the world. You will assist the Museum’s Collection Managers in providing technical support to the Museum’s Digitising Program, working closely with collection staff, barcoding staff and the EMu database and DigiVol teams, to digitize the Australian Museum’s collections.
There are up to 8 positions available, some temporary and some on-going, across the Entomology (ongoing), Marine Invertebrates (ongoing), Malacology (ongoing), Ornithology (ongoing), Herpetology (ongoing)Palaeontology (temporary) and Archaeology (ongoing) collections.
Essential Requirements
- At minimum, TAFE qualifications in relevant field, or equivalent experience in working with natural science collections and/or cultural collections.
- Demonstrated knowledge of discipline relevant nomenclature and classification procedures and experience in identification, taxonomy and or systematics in one of the identified disciplines.
- Demonstrated basic capacity to support the team in the maintenance and curation of the collection including the ability to handle fragile specimens/objects and labels and experience in, or willingness to handle chemicals, including ethanol and formalin according to WH&S procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in working with collection database systems and imaging of collection specimens/objects.
- Demonstrated basic knowledge and understanding of the application of Work Health and Safety (WH&S) legislation and regulations.
- Adequate knowledge and experience in order to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in the relevant Role Description.
