This exciting new role will work closely with the Tumuaki Director Maori and Pacific to lead and shape Teu Le Va – Auckland Museum’s Pacific dimension by developing strategic priorities to raise the profile of Teu Le Va across Auckland Museum and with Pacific communities. This role will be responsible for reviewing the current Teu Le Va plan and work alongside other senior managers across the Museum to develop a revised plan that will enhance and improve the Museum’s delivery of Teu Le Va. This role will connect Auckland Museum with Pacific communities and the organisations that are strategically important to supporting this initiative and the Museum’s Teu Le Va aspirations.
To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and competencies:
- A university degree or post-graduate degree or diploma in Pacific Studies, Museum Studies or other relevant areas of study.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical and reasoning skills including policy and report writing experience.
- An ability to make sense of information from a range of sources and to know when and how to elevate issues, with possible solutions, as needed.
- Experience in developing and successfully implementing Pacific-related organisational policy and practice in museums or similar organisations.
- Intermediate proficiency in at least one Pacific language and extensive knowledge of Pacific communities across Auckland, New Zealand and internationally, as well as cultural and social customs of different Pacific communities.
- Strong local and/or national government experience or in the tourism or culture and heritage sectors.
- Advanced written and oral public presentation skills.
- A mature approach, discretion and sound professional judgement.
- High standards of professionalism and integrity.
- A hard-worker who is productive, proactive and can meet milestones on time to a high standard.
- A strong team person who is flexible, contributes constructively to team goals and objectives, and can work independently as needed.
- A person who can work with a wide range of people at a variety of levels including other Museum managers, staff, Executive Team Directors, Pacific leaders and communities, culture and heritage and other external stakeholders and partners to advance strategic and business goals on behalf of the Museum.
