On Wednesday 4 March the first episode of the brand-new comedy quiz show Tonight at the Museum aired on the ABC. Tonight at the Museum is an eight part series that was filmed after hours at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) in late 2025 with a live audience.

Hosted by Alex Lee, the series features a changing lineup of celebrity guests exploring TMAG’s galleries and collections in an after dark adventure that blends surprising facts, comedic fun and a live audience. Each episode crowns one triumphant guest with the highest honour: having their chosen “treasure” exhibited at TMAG.

TMAG is hosting an exhibition in the Central Gallery to coincide with the show going to air and will reveal a new display case each week. These displays feature some of the wonderfully unexpected objects featured in the series along with the winning guest’s treasure.

This is a great opportunity to highlight museum collections on national television and for visitors to see some of the stories from the TMAG Collection brought to life on screen.

Tonight at the Museum is an i8 Studio and ABC co production, developed with the assistance of Screen Tasmania.

Tune into the ABC each Wednesday night at 8pm or binge on i-view!
