Duties
The Tourism Development section works across and with the existing business units of the Museum to further the Museum’s interests in domestic and international tourism. While located in the Development and Visitor Services division, its remit is agency wide.
The Tourism Development Unit activities are broad ranging, seeking to improve the Museum’s share of tourism by developing new engagement strategies, markets, products and services. It is also responsible for developing and maintaining distribution networks and strong relationships with relevant industry sectors in the ACT, Australia and overseas.
Responsibilities of the position:
- Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of national and international tourism marketing strategies that promote education, leisure and Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Events (MICE) tourism.
- Assist with national and international promotion – stakeholder management, wholesale program, partnership/advertising opportunities.
- Undertake direct sales activities to support the Museum and its programs and exhibitions.
- Develop and implement ongoing Hotel/Tour packaging and wholesaling (incl. launches and industry information).
- Manage Trade Show participation – administration, preparation, attendance and follow up.
- Manage the online travel agent sites – contracting of product and sales evaluation.
- Manage the coordination of tourism and tourism media familiarisations.
- Be the first point of contact for the day to day tourism industry.
- Manage tourism databases and invitation lists.
- Assist with managing tourism partnerships.
- Coordinate and publish ongoing communications with tourism trade via e-communications.
- Monitor and update tourism content for internal and external websites.
- Provide administrative and research support, assisting with budget processes, and monitoring sales activities.
