Tūhura OM displays Martin Phillips legacy

Special Exhibition

“Each evening the sun sets in five billion places
Seen by ten billion eyes set in five billion faces”

In 2024, Martin Phillipps, frontman of The Chills and writer of those beautiful lyrics, passed away suddenly, leaving behind an extensive musical legacy.

This exhibition pays tribute to Phillipps and the mesmerising eloquence of his music, which helped shape the Dunedin Sound.

See the jersey that Phillipps wore in the music video for Pink Frost, the song he hoped the band would be remembered for, and reminisce over a recreation of the famous Heavenly Pop Hits album cover, complete with Fender guitar.

Our thanks to the Phillipps family for gifting the items on display.
