You might’ve seen the story in today’s ODT about the museum introducing a recommended $20 donation for international visitors. Here’s what you need to know:

• It’s only for international visitors
• Only applies to those aged 16 and over
• It’s a suggested donation, not a required fee

Over the past few years, the museum has lost a lot of external funding due to cuts in education and outreach. By introducing this recommended donation, we can keep supporting our tamariki and community programs without shifting the cost onto local ratepayers.

Museums around the world do this (including Te Papa and Auckland Museum), and it helps us reinvest in what we offer here at home.
