About us
The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) is an executive agency of the New South Wales State Government. Embodying the best of design ingenuity and innovation, the Museum profiles one of the world’s great collections and is a highly successful interdisciplinary institution that sits at the intersection of the arts, design, science and technology and plays a critical role in supporting the brand and vision of the city.
The Powerhouse Precinct at Parramatta is one of the largest cultural infrastructure projects currently being undertaken in Australia. The project will transform and renew one of Australia’s oldest and most important cultural institutions and carry forward its legacy to reflect the changing needs of the contemporary communities of NSW. A key element of the project will involve the design of the future visitor experience, onsite, and across digital channels.
The Opportunity
The Digital Engagement team’s purpose is to enhance visitor experience through innovative digital services. Visitor interactions with the Museum involve many digital touchpoints, ranging from discovering what’s on offer, exploring digital experiences in our exhibitions, accessing the Museum’s online collection and visiting our key venues – The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Observatory and the Museum Discovery Centre.
The UX/UI role is new within the Digital Engagement team and the museum is in a process of renewal aligned with the delivery of a new museum in Parramatta. The role will suit a self-starter who is open to the challenge of leading the UX/UI function as part of a small, dynamic team. The role will focus on aligning internal teams with varying objectives within the museum to deliver a leading digital customer experience.
Key highlights of the role:
- Under the direction of the Digital Engagement Manager, design and develop the MAAS website and related web, digital content production and interactive projects
- Apply experience design and human-centered design processes to digital projects to ensure high quality, audience-focused outcomes.
- Facilitate collaborative IA/UX and design activities such as discovery workshops, design sprints and user testing to gather knowledge; define goals, prototype and test solutions as required.
