Housed in one of Australia’s most prominent national heritage-listed buildings, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House was the first museum in Australia dedicated to telling the story of the journey of our democracy. It seeks to provide a range of innovative exhibitions, tours, interpretation, education programs, and public activities that will inspire and challenge visitors to explore democracy from its ancient roots to the present day and possible futures.
We have a position available in our Museum Experience, Learning and Engagement teams. These positions work under general supervision and involve engaging with our diverse audiences in a range of ways to enhance their experience at the museum. Common requirements for these positions include good people skills and the ability to give presentations that may involve standing for long periods of time.
The key duties of the position include:
- Provide high-quality experiences to museum visitors including school students, families and adults in an environment with competing priorities.
- Assist with the development of new experiences including undertaking basic research and analysis.
- Undertake a range of administrative tasks to support the team.
- Contribute to MoAD more broadly by supporting events and attending mandatory training, project and staff meetings and role-specific actions as required.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Museum Engagement
- Assist with the development and facilitation of informal and formal learning experiences with children and adults in PlayUP exhibitions and other Museum Engagement spaces including the development and implementation of relevant programming.
- Ability to develop and facilitate effective and engaging craft-based learning activities for an intergenerational audience
Learning
- Present engaging learning programs to school audiences – onsite, offsite and online, including MoAD Digital Studio programs and digital excursions.
- Coordinate and maintain the operational aspects of these programs including costumes, props, AV surveys and workshop materials.
- Assist with development, delivery and evaluation of onsite, online and digital Learning resources and programs.
Museum Experience
- Provide high-quality interactions with museum visitors, including entry management, providing information to promote current museum programs, retail sales and handling telephone calls
- Deliver and support a range of museum public programs including tours, events and facilitating activities in exhibition spaces. Occasional after-hours work may be required.

- Working with Vulnerable People registration card is required prior to commencement, and
- Must be willing to undertake a security clearance process at the Baseline level and maintain the clearance. This process will take place after commencement.
