The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences sits at the intersection of the arts, design, science and technology and plays a critical role in engaging communities with contemporary ideas and issues. Established in 1879, the museum includes the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Observatory and the Museums Discovery Centre. The Museum is custodian to over half a million objects of national and international significance and is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in Australia.
The Discovery Centre is a collection storage facility for the all the Powerhouse Museum’s thousands of objects and is open to the public to discover and learn about museum collecting, conservation and research practices.
The Visitor Services & Venues team is one of the first points of contact for MAAS visitors. In this role, you will oversee and ensure high standards of delivery of the Museum Discovery Centre’s (MDC) public program and visitor experience.
Key highlights of the role:
- Leading day-to-day coordination and implementation of a range of programs and activities
- Working collaboratively with programs, Ticketing Services, Volunteers, Communications, Security, Retail and Events
- Identifying ways to continually enhance the visitor experience as well as Visitor Services’ systems and processes
- Providing direction and coaching a small team of Visitor Hosts
- Liaising with external stakeholders and community groups to support content development of MDC programs
Note – Working days are from Wednesday to Sunday. Relevant loading will be added to the salary.

- You are an engaging team leader experienced in the operational delivery of exceptional customer experiences in a large venue
- Possess excellent communication, collaboration and customer service skills. ??
- Demonstrated success in solving day-to-day operational problems from an end to end visitor centric perspective.?
- Able to Coordinate a multi-disciplinary site with competing demands across programming, education, commercial and visitation needs.
- Knowledge and experience using visitor facing and event booking systems
- Hold a Drivers licence, First Aid Certificate and Working with Children’s Check
