Role Purpose:

The South Australian Museum’s purpose is to inspire in all people a wonder and curiosity about life on Earth. It is one of the most visited museums in Australia and holds collections of national and international significance. The Public Engagement team works with Museum staff and partners to bring the stories of the Museum’s research and collections to life in vibrant and exciting ways for all people. The team is responsible for the delivery of the Museum’s public experiences, including welcome and orientation, the permanent galleries and temporary exhibition program, and education and engagement programs for the public.

This role serves to enhance the Museum’s visitor experience by ensuring visitors are appropriately welcomed to Museum and have suitable opportunities to engage with Museum programs and experiences. It is responsible for overseeing the operational management of the Museum’s front of house, including visitor reception, tourist experiences and the Discovery Centre. It is also responsible for overseeing the front of house volunteering program and the visitor insights program.

Special Conditions:

  • Compliance with Government legislation, Code of Ethics for the SA Public Sector, DSD policies and procedures, including ethical / accountable resources and information management, WHS and injury management, risk management, and the access / equity /diversity strategies of the public sector.
  • Engagement in this role may be subject to a satisfactory Department for Communities and Social Inclusion Criminal History Check or National Police Check. A renewal will be required every 3 years.
  • Some weekend and out of hours work is expected and required. Some intrastate travel may be required.
  • Regular performance reviews.
  • The incumbent will be required to maintain a safe working environment by adopting appropriate hazard management practices consistent with the role.
  • A current driver’s licence is desirable.
