The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is northern Australia’s premier cultural institution. It offers a dynamic and diverse arts, science and cultural program to approximately 300,000 visitors each year.

We are both a museum and art gallery with collections, exhibitions and programs across our core areas of Aboriginal culture, natural sciences, history and art focussing on Northern and Central Australia and our near neighbours.

MAGNT’s objective is to maintain the highest standards of excellence in preserving, researching, exhibiting and communicating the record of natural history, art and peoples of the Northern Territory. Its vision is to be a world‐class museum connecting people and stories of the Northern Territory.

MAGNT has seven venues, Bullocky Point, the Defence of Darwin Experience, Fannie Bay Gaol, Lyons Cottage, the Museum of Central Australia (incorporating the Strehlow Research Centre), Megafauna Central and the Alcoota fossil site.

Primary Objective:
This position supervises all aspects of the Museum’s daily frontline operations, including the Experience team, admissions, on‐line ticketing, safety & security, retail, program bookings, events and program delivery, administration and coordination of volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:
Under direction from the Visitor Experience Coordinator, duties will typically encompass the following key responsibilities:

  1. Supervise, lead and develop the Visitor Experience team to ensure a strong team culture
  2. Ensure clear communication between MAGNT staff and Visitor Experience staff
  3. Prepare and monitor staffing rosters to meet MAGNT operational needs and budgets
  4. Prepare regular visitation reports and feedback for all MAGNT venues
  5. Supervise and develop volunteer staff
  6. Assist with development of Visitor Experience procedures and policy reviews
  7. Provide a courteous, comprehensive and efficient information service to visitors
  8. Oversee and perform daily reconciliations of ticketing systems and program bookings
  9. Provide a clean, presentable, safe and accessible environment at all times
  10. Monitor and report on visitor feedback, visitor surveys and complaint resolution
  11. Ensure Visitor Experience team monitor and enforce the protection and security of exhibits and objects while invigilating galleries
  12. In the event of an emergency lead the Visitor Experience team in line with MAGNT’s
    emergency response procedures
  13. On occasion perform other duties or special projects in addition to the above key responsibilities as appropriate
