Sydney Living Museums cares for 11 of the NSW most important historic houses, museums and their collections: Elizabeth Bay House, Elizabeth Farm, Hyde Park Barracks Museum, Justice & Police Museum, Meroogal, The Mint, Museum of Sydney, Rose Seidler House, Rouse Hill House & Farm, Susannah Place Museum and Vaucluse House. All are listed in the NSW State Heritage Register. The role delivers consistently high quality overnight sleepover programs to a range of primary school age audiences to provide engaging and interactive experiences to learn about and provide a fascinating insight into convict life at the Hyde Park Barracks.

  • To be eligible for this position you will need a valid NSW Working with Children Check. For more information click here.
  • This is a casual role working Tuesday and Wednesday nights, an example shift would commence at 5:30pm and end at 8:00am the following morning.

Responsibilities Essential requirements the role holder needs:

  • Current working with children.
  • Knowledge and interest in Australian history & heritage with enthusiasm for communicating that acquired knowledge through relevant qualifications and/or experience.
  • Availability to work overnight on a casual basis.
  • Ability to manage lifting, carrying, standing, kneeling and moving around heritage sites, in both internal and external environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Experience with group management of school age children.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team often with limited supervision.

Targeted Questions / Selection Criteria Targeted questions

  1. Demonstrate your experience in delivering engaging tours or programs to primary school aged audiences within a cultural institution or other relevant organisation.
  2. The Visitor & Interpretation Officer – Sleepover Program role requires the role holder to be on site overnight, unsupervised and responsible for a wide range of school audiences. Describe one or more occasions when you responded to challenging operational requirements and have shown versatility in adapting a program to better meet the needs of the audience.
