The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is Australia’s leading independent museum organisation. Our purpose is to inspire an understanding of the significance of the central Victorian gold rushes in Australia’s national story. We collect, conserve and interpret the mining, social, cultural and environmental heritage of the Ballarat region through our world-famous Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, the Gold Museum Ballarat, Sovereign Hill Hotel, the Blood on the Southern Cross sound and light show and our pastoral property, Narmbool. The Friends of Sovereign Hill (FOSH) is a membership-based volunteer program operating in the Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum with some 200 active volunteers.

The FOSH volunteer program is managed as part of the Volunteers Department, which also manages the Gold Museum Society volunteer program. FOSH volunteers dress in period costume and perform tasks to provide our visitors with a ‘living exhibit’ of life in the 1850s and interpret this history for them. Some FOSH volunteers also work behind-the-scenes with our collection of museum artefacts. Reporting to the Volunteer Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth organisation of rosters, allocation of duties, provision of supplies, organisation of activities and support of individual FOSH volunteers’ needs. We are seeking an experienced ‘people person’ who can organise, motivate, supervise and thank our team of dedicated volunteers. Are you a collaborative person who can work with a diverse range of colleagues and a dedicated band of volunteers? Experience in volunteer management, staff supervision or human resources will be highly regarded. The working days and hours are negotiable and will ideally be three short days per week.

Due to FOSH being a 7-day per week operation, we require you to work a roster with regular weekend shifts.
