WWI letters and diaries online

First World War Letters and Diaries Available Online

The Australian War Memorial recently launched one of its major First World War commemorative projects to make rare, historic records freely available online to the general public.

Called ANZAC Connections, the project involves the progressive digitisation of thousands of pages of personal accounts, letters and diaries from the First World War.

A broad selection of the private records of officers and soldiers from the First World War will be added to the Australian War Memorial website. These collections represent the voices of those who served and range in size from single diaries or letters to larger collections.

The project will continue to progressively release more new digitised collections, data and web developments during 2014 and 2015.

ANZAC Connectionshas also made available improved linkage and search options to bring together the Memorial’s digital collections including photographs, film, artworks and objects.

Access to the collections and fascinating blogs about the collection content can be found here.
