THE OPPORTUNITY
Museums Victoria, Australia’s largest museum organisation, is seeking a Manager, Museum Spaces. We are looking for an experienced and highly professional individual with strong business acumen and a passion for the hospitality and events sector to join the Commercial team. The successful candidate will optimise revenue and visitor experiences related to consumer, trade and business venue hire across Museums Victoria’s sites, negotiate and manage major contracts and oversee compliance to operating procedures and requirements.
Working with Museums Victoria’s Museum Spaces team, core functions of this position include:
- Develop and implement a commercial strategy to optimise revenue from trade and consumer venue hire, catering and supplier right negotiation and third-party partnerships for the Royal Exhibition Building, Scienceworks, Melbourne Museum and the Immigration Museum
- Lead a process to develop new business opportunities to achieve significant net contribution growth
- Oversee the development and monitoring of budgets, provide high level business analysis, maintain accurate documentation and report financial performance
- Manage and oversee delivery of all Museums Victoria stakeholder events, ensuring they are delivered to a high standard and achieve their strategic objectives
- Provide strategic and stakeholder management advice to assist in positioning the Royal Exhibition Building within a local and national event and heritage venue context
- Lead a process to negotiate catering, supplier and other complex commercial partnership contracts including new businesses
Relevant skills and attributes:
- High level knowledge and experience in developing strategic business plans, including experience in business modelling and analysis
- Substantial experience negotiating large catering or other major supplier agreements
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Substantial experience in the operational requirements of commercial venues
- Excellent management skills including the ability to motivate and lead a team and determine appropriate training and skills development
