Senior Graphic Designer, Retail

Museums Victoria is seeking an experienced and talented Senior Graphic Designer, Retail to lead the direction for the MV Retail products offering for Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, Scienceworks, and Online. Focusing on utilising assets within the museum and researching commercial trends to create a range that has alignment across categories with consideration to the application to product, packaging, and POS.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

This position is responsible for creation of designs to be used for product for exhibitions and everyday Museums Victoria exclusive ranges. With a focus on target audiences, creating a concept with consideration on the best financial outcome and working to a dedicated timeline.

Key duties include:

  1. Use innovative thinking to undertake highly advanced and creative design work specifically for commercially viable product for the retail department at Museums Victoria.
  2. Work with the Product Manager to develop creative outputs from briefs provided, and be able to commercially interpret trends, exhibition content, Museums Victoria content and collections for existing and new product lines.
  3. Liaise and work collaboratively with Museums Victoria suppliers to provide the artwork in the format required. Understand the technical requirements for the application to product.
  4. Prepare and present concept and designs for sign off ensuring they are developed in line with the museum’s strategic directions, brief provided and suitable application to product while considering the value proposition and merchandising capabilities.
  5. Utilise the internal assets of the museum as inspiration on the creative considering copyright limitations.
  6. Assist in the development of a Museums Victoria Retail visual and brand identity for the purpose of developing products, packaging, and display units and other assets for the Retail department.
  7. Work within the Museums Victoria brand guidelines to ensure appropriate branding is followed.
  8. Engage in the business analysis to assist in understanding results associated with sales and profit to help support future direction.
  9. Use expertise in the field of Communication Design to convey design concepts and original ideas to museum colleagues, suppliers and external stakeholders.
  10. Liaise with the Museums Victoria Design Team to be up to date on all exhibitions, activities, events and branding developments.
  11. Adhere to the inhouse electronic design management system and provide production management support to the communication design team as required.
  12. Identify, negotiate, recommend, commission and manage external contractors.
  13. Comply with Museums Victoria’s policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations.
  14. Actively support strategies which assist team members to understand and comply with Museums Victoria’s policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations.
