The Senior Media Officer will plan, develop & lead the media & public relations planning for Queensland Museum Network including major exhibitions & programs like the World Science Festival Brisbane. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you will manage the delivery of media relations activities across the network – Queensland Museum (South Bank), Cobb+Co Museum (Toowoomba), The Workshops Rail Museum (Ipswich) and Museum of Tropical Queensland (Townsville) and assist with online presence and social media activity, events and marketing as required. You will be responsible for ensuring all Queensland Museum Network and stakeholder approvals for media activity are undertaken and deadlines are met within budget. The Senior Media Officer will be self-motivated, work autonomously and have the ability to think laterally while maintaining attention to detail, manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop key messages, media releases and alerts, media kits, speeches, social media and online content, annual report copy and other promotional materials required to support exhibitions, programs and partnerships across the Queensland Museum Network.
  • Establish and maintain positive productive relationships with local, regional, national and international media organisations and other stakeholders.
  • Proactively plan and coordinate highly effective media and promotions opportunities for Queensland Museum Network including the development of an annual media and public relations plan and exhibition media plans across traditional and digital channels.
  • Manage media communication approvals, speeches, events and correspondence with Arts Queensland and all relevant ministerial opportunities, ensuring accurately, timely and relevant communication to stakeholders.
  • Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Director of Public Engagement as required, collaborate with stakeholders across the Queensland Museum Network and external parties to manage the organisation’s reputation.
  • Identify any emerging or potential media issues and respond to media enquiries including any issues or crisis communication, ensuring high quality, consistent and timely messaging.
  • Provide timely communication engagement advice and support to CEO, Director of Public Engagement, Head of Marketing and the museum network.
  • Record, track and analyse media engagement, monitor and report on media coverage.
  • Participate in after-hours on call roster for media enquiries, incident and emergency communications.
  • Contribute to the safety culture of QMN by reporting all incidents and hazards and ensuring work is undertaken in the safest way possible, following all QMN WHS policies and/or procedures and guidelines relevant to the job.
  • Comply with QMN’s policies and procedures (including approval processes) and Government legislation
